LG Electronics said on Thursday that its employee volunteer group, the "Life's Good Volunteer Group", visited the Yeomni Day Care Center for People with Disabilities in Mapo district, Seoul. The centre is affiliated with the Korean Association for Social Welfare. About 10 people in their 20s and 30s with severe disabilities currently use the centre.

LG Electronics employees joined the volunteer activity using a weekday volunteer leave scheme. The scheme allows employees to take part in volunteering on weekdays for up to 8 hours a year. Since the scheme was introduced in 2013, total hours logged using weekday volunteer leave exceeded 38,000 hours through last year.

The volunteer activity was carried out using funds from a "donation menu" programme that employees set up voluntarily. The donation menu is a scheme under which LG Electronics encourages everyday giving by employees. At company cafeterias at domestic sites, it offers a menu with fewer side dishes on the second Wednesday of every even-numbered month. When employees choose that menu, 500 won is set aside each time.

The employees made rice cake soup and jeon with centre users and ate together. They also took part in sports activities such as yutnori and boccia. Boccia is an official Paralympic sport. LG Electronics also gave health functional foods as gifts for the Lunar New Year holiday to older residents at 11 villages with which it has one-company-one-village partnership ties.
