China's AI startup Moonshot AI has raised additional funding of $500 million, SiliconANGLE reported on Wednesday.
In the Series C round, IDG Capital invested $150 million, and existing investors Alibaba Group and Tencent also participated. The investment increased Moonshot AI's valuation to $4.3 billion.
Moonshot AI is competing with OpenAI, Anthropic and Google and aims to develop AI systems that surpass human cognitive abilities. Unlike rivals MiniMax and Z.ai, which are pursuing IPOs, Moonshot AI is prioritising an expansion of AI computing infrastructure, SiliconANGLE said.
Moonshot AI's flagship model, Kimi K2 Thinking, has drawn attention since its release last November after showing performance surpassing OpenAI's GPT-5 and Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4.5. Moonshot AI's overseas revenue quadrupled on the back of Kimi K2 Thinking, and its number of paying subscribers jumped 170 percent.
