Ripple has received final approval for an EU Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence from Luxembourg’s financial authorities, The Block reported on Feb. 2 (local time).

It converted a preliminary approval received on Jan. 14 into a formal licence.

With the approval, Ripple can expand payments and digital asset services in Europe. Through authorisation from Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), it secured a regulatory basis to provide blockchain-based payment services to European companies. Cassie Craddock (캐시 크래독), Ripple’s UK and Europe managing director, said, “Europe has always been a strategic priority,” and added, “This approval allows us to build robust, compliant blockchain infrastructure within the EU.”

Ripple has recently accelerated its platform expansion in the UK after securing approval from the Financial Conduct Authority for electronic money and crypto-asset registration. The UK government plans to introduce a comprehensive regulatory framework for crypto assets by 2027. Ripple currently holds more than 75 global regulatory approvals and is building infrastructure to support financial institutions shifting from existing financial systems to digital asset technology.
