Open-source AI platform Sentient said on Feb. 3 that global asset manager Franklin Templeton is participating as a strategic investor in Sentient.

The size of the investment was not disclosed. Sentient is a global AI research project that aims to build and verify trustworthy AI systems based on open source and a community participation structure.

Sentient plans over the coming months to work with Franklin Templeton to advance key high-stakes AI use cases in finance, where errors can lead to major losses or regulatory risks. It also plans to implement open-source inference technology as an operational system that can be used immediately in financial practice.

Through the collaboration, the two sides plan to make more concrete the scope of AI applications in finance that have the level of reliability and verifiability needed for real operating environments. Sentient said it plans to accumulate technology and use cases in a way that improves performance, stability and reproducibility in long-horizon environments as it connects open-source inference to a system usable in practice.

A Sentient official said it plans to further strengthen, on an open-source basis, the reliability and verifiability that are particularly important in financial environments through collaboration with Franklin Templeton. The official added that it hopes the partnership will serve as an opportunity to develop open-source inference technology into a form that can be applied in real financial practice.
