Anthropic will add plugin functions to its AI collaboration tool Cowork as part of efforts to strengthen custom automation, TechCrunch reported on Jan. 30. The feature is designed for non-developers to use easily and supports tailored automation across marketing, legal and customer support work.

Matt Fikorrella (맷 피콜렐라) of Anthropic's product team said, "Plugins are designed to automate the work of specific departments." He added, "Companies can build and use their own plugins." Anthropic released 11 in-house plugins as open source. It said the plugins are easy to optimize and can be used without technical expertise.

Fikorrella added, "It is already showing strong results in data analysis and sales departments."

Cowork is currently in a research preview stage, and its official launch schedule is undecided. Plugins will be provided to all paying Claude users, and a sharing function within organizations will be added later.
