South Korea’s KOSPI set another intraday record high. SK Hynix also crossed 900,000 won during the session for the first time.
As of 9:27 a.m. on Jan. 30, the KOSPI was up 31.57 points, or 0.6 percent, from the previous day at 5,252.82. The index opened lower but soon turned higher. It rose as far as 5,261.24 to set a record intraday high.
Retail investors were net buyers of 721.8 billion won. Foreigners and institutions were net sellers of 465.3 billion won and 245.8 billion won, respectively.
Among the top KOSPI stocks by market value, SK Hynix was up in the 3 percent range. It rose to as high as 906,000 won during the session, setting a 52-week high. Samsung Electronics was trading up 0.75 percent at 161,900 won.
SK Square, which holds a stake in SK Hynix, was also rising in the 1 percent range. Hanwha Aerospace was also up more than 1 percent.
In contrast, Hyundai Motor, which posted an earnings shock in its fourth-quarter results last year, was down more than 3 percent. Samsung C&T was down in the 2 percent range, while Kia and NAVER were down more than 1 percent.
The KOSDAQ was down 2.09 points, or 0.18 percent, from the previous day at 1,162.32. In the KOSDAQ market, foreigners were net sellers of 108.7 billion won. Institutions and retail investors were net buyers of 136.3 billion won and 82.6 billion won, respectively.
