Sony will invest an additional $13 million in partner Startale to mark the first anniversary of the Sonium blockchain mainnet launch, Cointelegraph reported on Jan. 29.

The investment will be made through the Sony Innovation Fund. Cointelegraph said the decision followed confirmation of results after the Sonium network moved beyond a testnet into an operational stage.

Sonium public block explorer data show about 524 million transactions have been processed since the mainnet launch in January 2025. Over the same period, Avalanche recorded 442 million transactions and Algorand recorded 383 million. A Startale spokesperson said increased transaction volume and the creation of 5.4 million wallets influenced Sony's decision to invest more.

Startale launched the stablecoin StartaleUSD (USDSC) on the Sonium mainnet. USDSC will be used for payments within the network and as a basic payment layer for applications.
