ERC-8004, an Ethereum smart contract standard designed to let AI agents build mutual trust without centralised intermediaries, will be introduced on the Ethereum mainnet, Cointelegraph reported on Tuesday.
Cointelegraph reported this, citing Marco De Rossi (마르코 데 로시), who oversees AI at Ethereum wallet service MetaMask.
The ERC-8004 standard supports AI agents discovering and trusting each other through a network. It also helps developers implement this in smart contracts.
It standardises AI agent registration and verification. It focuses on building trust between AI agents and activating an open agent economy. Davide Crapis (다비데 크라피스), the Ethereum Foundation's AI lead, said, "Ethereum is a unique platform that can securely handle interactions between AI." ERC-8004 is also set to support Ethereum layer 2 Base.
It also supports a function that lets AI agents automate stablecoin payments through the x402 protocol developed by Coinbase.
