WhatsApp, the messaging platform, is introducing a feature to share group chat history. The feature lets newly added group members check recent conversations. Up to 100 messages from within the last 14 days can be shared, 9to5Mac reported on Jan. 23.
Meta, which operates WhatsApp, has released the new feature to testers. Shared messages are highlighted in a separate colour so new members can easily recognise them.
The feature is commonly used on other messaging platforms and helps new members understand the flow of existing conversations and avoid missing important information. WhatsApp also plans to introduce it to improve user convenience.
WhatsApp is also preparing measures to strengthen transparency in case chat history could be shared without authorisation. The feature is currently being tested on Android, and 9to5Mac reported that it is likely to take time before an official release.
