Binance has applied for its first licence in Greece in line with the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, Cointelegraph reported on Jan. 23 local time.

A Binance spokesperson said it is working with the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) and that the regulation will contribute to the growth of the EU digital finance ecosystem.

Binance’s move was reported shortly after France’s Autorite des Marches Financiers (AMF) warned that 90 crypto companies, including Binance, still do not comply with MiCA. The AMF notified the companies that operations would be halted from July if they do not obtain licences by June 30 at the end of 2025. ESMA data show that no company has received a MiCA licence in Greece so far.

Germany and the Netherlands issued the most licences in the EU, with 43 and 22 respectively, while France approved 11.
