Spotify has unveiled an AI-based “Prompt Playlist” to premium subscribers in the United States and Canada, TechCrunch reported on Jan. 22.
Users can generate the music they want by entering longer descriptions than earlier AI playlists that relied on short phrases such as “upbeat pop songs that lift my mood.”
For example, if a user types, “Find artists I might like and make me a playlist,” the AI recommends songs by artists the user is likely to enjoy. J.J. Italiano (J.J. 이탈리아노), Spotify’s head of global music curation and discovery, said, “Prompt Playlist helps anyone create their own playlist just by describing emotions, even if they don’t know genres or industry terms.”
The AI creates tailored playlists by analysing real-time music trends, charts, culture and users’ listening history. Users can also set it not to reflect their tastes to discover new music.
Users can also create playlists based on non-music factors such as the weather or TV programmes. TechCrunch said this could lead to a new type of content in which creators share AI prompts.
