The Korea Fintech Industry Association said on Jan. 19 it nominated KuCon CEO Kim Jong-hyun as the sole candidate for the association's sixth chair at a regular board meeting held on Jan. 16.

Kim will campaign for a month. If he secures support from more than half of member companies at the regular general meeting on Feb. 25, his appointment as the sixth chair will be confirmed.

Kim has held posts at Dongnam Bank and Korea Housing Bank, served as head of WebCash's research institute and as a private-sector member of the Digital Platform Government Committee. He is currently CEO of KuCon.

Kim said KuCon was involved in the founding of the association in 2016 and has grown over the past 10 years through cooperation with the fintech sector. He said he decided to run to repay the industry's support. He said he would work harder to help address tasks facing the sector, including regulatory improvements, drawing on his experience working with member companies.
