Ethereum is gaining traction again. In just two months of 2026, its core development team has brought forward its technical roadmap significantly, and three major global banks have announced they will issue tokenised bonds directly on Ethereum-based networks.

William Mougayar (윌리엄 무가야), a blockchain investor and author, summed up the latest developments on social media platform X (Twitter) by saying an "Ethereum renaissance" is taking place.

According to him, the key to recent changes in Ethereum is integration. Mougayar said, "The platform team is integrating layer1 and layer2, and is focusing protocol priorities on scalability, user experience (UX) and stronger security. Among developers, there is also talk that fragmentation is over."

With a new cross-layer2 communication standard in place, users can move between Base, Arbitrum and Optimism without realising the chain is changing.

He stressed, "Unified liquidity is becoming the foundation supporting the Ethereum renaissance. Over the past 60 days, daily active addresses in the Ethereum ecosystem have increased 40 percent. This is the result of growing real use, not speculative trading."

Institutional investors are also highlighting Ethereum's "Lindy effect". This is the principle that the longer a technology survives, the longer it is likely to survive. Mougayar said, "Thanks to proven security and a decentralised structure, institutions managing trillion-dollar assets see Ethereum as the only option."

There has also been progress on the technology front. Mougayar said, "With the launch of the ERC-8004 standard, a foundation has been laid for Ethereum to function as a 'Truth Layer' for an AI agent economy. The Ethereum Foundation treasury staking initiative shows it has entered a mature stage in terms of institutional adoption. Data throughput has increased tenfold, and zero-knowledge proof (ZK proof) technology guarantees privacy and anonymity at the user level." He added that a 'Strawmap' blueprint for long-term alignment has also been prepared, and sub-one-second transaction finality is being combined with scaling that is imperceptible to users.

This renaissance is not only about speed or fee issues. He said, "It is also about securing enough safety to make Ethereum a layer that settles civilisation-scale value, and establishing it as infrastructure that protects user self-sovereignty and cypherpunk philosophy."
