OpenAI said on Thursday it had finalised a $110 billion investment round.
Amazon will invest $50 billion, while Nvidia will put in $30 billion and SoftBank will invest $30 billion. The investment lifts OpenAI's pre-money valuation to $730 billion.
Amazon also signed a multi-year strategic partnership with OpenAI as part of the investment. The companies will jointly develop customised models to support Amazon consumer applications. OpenAI will expand its existing $38 billion contract with Amazon Web Services to about $100 billion over the next eight years. Under the cooperation, AWS will also serve as the exclusive third-party cloud service providing OpenAI's enterprise AI agent platform Frontier, which was unveiled earlier this month.
Amazon Chief Executive Andy Jassy (앤디 재시) told CNBC in an interview, "The AI market is still in the early stages and OpenAI has shown an excellent start," adding, "I am confident it will be one of the big winners over the long term."
Amazon will invest an initial $15 billion, with the remaining $35 billion to be executed within months after certain conditions are met.
