Com2uS declared it will begin a full-fledged rebound this year after passing through a tunnel of weak new releases and restructuring that continued through last year. The company plans to step up a "super IP" strategy that expands genres and platforms by adding proven Japanese anime IP with a global fandom to the foundation built on its own intellectual property such as "Summoners War" and "Com2uS Pro Baseball".
Com2uS CEO Nam Jae-kwan said in a recent New Year address that this is "a year to put accumulated experience and preparation into action," and he set out the company’s intent to target global markets. This is seen as a strategy to seek a turnaround in performance with more certain hits after struggling with box-office weakness and development risk in expansion focused on new in-house IP.
Com2uS has chosen a strategy of boosting the probability of success by bringing in proven external IP. With "Summoners War" and its baseball game lineup drawing steady popularity across Asia and Western markets and serving as stable revenue sources, it plans to diversify its pipeline by adding new titles based on major external IP.
The vanguard of the strategy is a set of new titles based on popular Japanese anime. First, "Tougen Anki: Crimson Inferno," an anticipated title for the first half of 2026, is an action RPG that preserves the original’s intense tone. It supports cross-platform play on mobile and PC to maximize accessibility. It drew positive reviews for impactful combat presentation after releasing a demo version at "Tokyo Game Show 2025" in September last year and at a recent Apple game showcase.
Next, "Gachiakuta: The Game" (tentative title), now in preparation, targets Western console markets. The company is using as a key point the popularity of the original anime in the West, including ranking No. 1 in North America and Europe OTT viewing charts. Com2uS is developing "Gachiakuta" for console and PC platforms such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox, rather than mobile, in a move interpreted as a strategy to meaningfully broaden its portfolio beyond Asia’s mobile-heavy market to North America and Europe, where preference for consoles is higher.
A notable point is a qualitative change in how it uses IP. Com2uS chose to participate directly in the original anime production committees, including Kodansha, rather than simply buying licenses. This is read as an effort to build IP into a long-term asset rather than a one-off material by being involved, from the game development stage, in planning the original world view and direction for expansion. The company aims to build a virtuous cycle in which a game’s success lifts the value of the original and then draws users back to the game. Com2uS is applying this pipeline strategy to other major IP titles, including "Destiny Child" and "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint," based on a web novel.
The market is focusing on Com2uS’ restructuring and momentum from new releases. Shinhan Investment Corp forecast that Com2uS will swing to an operating profit in the fourth quarter of 2025 and deliver results above consensus through the disposal of subsidiaries and improved cost efficiency. With a lighter cost structure, expectations are that in 2026 the performance of new titles will translate directly into operating profit leverage. In particular, it forecast that "Tougen Anki" in the first half and the company’s internally developed AAA-grade MMORPG "Project ES" in the second half will be key drivers of improved results.
Management also backed the effort with action. Com2uS decided on Jan. 5 to cancel treasury shares equivalent to 5.1 percent of its total shares outstanding, and it disclosed on Jan. 14 that CEO Nam Jae-kwan and executives acquired shares through open-market purchases. This is analyzed as a move that shows management’s confidence to the market in improved shareholder value as well as improved results and growth in corporate value.
Nam said, "Com2uS has the strength to turn numerous crises into opportunities," and added, "I will do my best to create a clear direction and a stable environment so employees can take on challenges responsibly."
Com2uS plans to strengthen its global growth engines through a strategy that spans its own hit titles and new releases based on major domestic and overseas IP. This challenge is expected to be a proving ground not only for whether its new titles become hits, but also for how long and how broadly Com2uS can operate external IP.
