Meta is shutting down its virtual reality work collaboration app, Horizon Workrooms, Business Insider reported on Thursday.

Workrooms, launched in 2021 as part of Meta’s metaverse expansion, was a remote collaboration platform. It will no longer be accessible from Feb. 16, and related data will also be deleted.

The decision comes as Meta cuts staff at its Reality Labs division. The New York Times reported Meta plans to reduce headcount by 10 to 15 percent at Reality Labs, which develops VR headsets and the metaverse social network Horizon Worlds. The metaverse has cost Meta more than $70 billion in losses since 2020, and Meta is shifting its focus to an AI-centred strategy.

Meta said it would continue to expand Horizon services and support various productivity apps and tools without Workrooms.
