A claim that 1.8 billion XRP moved on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) over 24 hours has raised expectations of a network rebound. The figure, however, has not been independently verified, making it hard to treat as evidence of a sustained recovery.

Blockchain outlet U.Today reported on Friday that XRPL processes payments, decentralised exchange (DEX) trades and transfers of tokenised assets. Rising payment volumes can indicate stronger network activity, but large transfers do not necessarily mean demand is expanding. The moves could reflect shifts in exchange custody assets, internal fund management or transfers between wallets controlled by the same entity.

A clear recovery has also not been confirmed in recent payment volumes. Daily payment volume rose to about 137.7 million XRP at one point in October, but it was below the 30-day average of about 496 million XRP. There was also a day when it recorded about 363.3 million XRP, but some said a one-day rebound is not enough to judge a sustained recovery.

Weekly activity patterns also need to be considered. XRPL activity is likely to rise on Thursdays and Fridays, fall over the weekend, and recover again from Monday. That means even a sharp jump in daily transfers could be repeated weekly fluctuation rather than a new trend.

To judge whether there is a recovery, it is necessary to look not only at transfer volumes but also at the number of active addresses, the number of successful payments, DEX trading volume, liquidity and the distribution of transaction amounts. Even if transaction counts rise, it is hard to see it as an expansion in real user demand if the activity is concentrated in automated behaviour. This limitation also surfaced in a recent probe into small-value stablecoin payments on XRPL.

The relationship between network usage and the XRP price also needs to be distinguished. More payments and settlements do not directly lead to a price rise. Conversely, the price can rise on speculative buying even without an increase in real usage. Broader trends in the overall crypto market and exchange liquidity also affect the price.

A clearer recovery signal would be when strong activity continues for several days, without being skewed toward a small number of large transfers, while liquidity and user demand also improve. Whether the claim of a 1.8 billion XRP move leads to a recovery trend beyond a temporary spike depends on whether these indicators improve together.
