[DigitalToday intern reporter Seung-a Yoo] Binance urged caution over the spread of fake reward campaigns and phishing links. Fraudulent promotions touting compensation for the withdrawal suspension are circulating, and users are being urged to stay alert.
On Nov. 1 (local time), blockchain media outlet U.Today reported that Binance co-founder Yi He (이허) said on X, formerly Twitter, that an official community rewards campaign would begin only after review and approval by regulators. The review is expected to proceed when the regulator's office reopens the next day. She stressed that there is currently no cash voucher campaign and urged users to watch out for phishing and scam links.
Eowyn Chen (에오윈 첸), former chief executive officer of Trust Wallet and Binance's interim chief marketing officer, also issued a warning to prevent fraud. Chen said there is no separate compensation for the withdrawal suspension and urged users to check only notices from Binance's official accounts.
Some scam accounts are distributing false promotions claiming a free reward of $150, or about 200,000 won. An X user also pointed out in a related post that a reward notice screen showing $150 compensation is fake. The user urged caution, saying links that say to check the "Reward Hub" or to claim compensation are highly likely to be scams.
Binance has been gradually resuming customers' cryptocurrency withdrawals from Nov. 1. It comes about two days after a security incident in which hackers tried to steal more than $6 billion, or about 8 trillion won.
Binance said phase 1 of the withdrawal resumption covers BTC on the BTC network; ETH, USDT and USDC on the ETH network; and BNB, USDT and USDC on the BSC network. It also includes TRX and USDT on the TRX network; SOL, USDT and USDC on the SOL network; XRP on the XRP network; ZEC on the ZEC network; and DOGE on the DOGE network.
It also includes USDT and GRAM on the TON network; SUI on the SUI network; ETH and USDC on the Base network; ETH, USDT and USDC on the OP (Optimism) network; ARB, ETH, USDT and USDC on the Arbitrum network; POL, USDT and USDC on the Polygon network; and AVAX, USDT and USDC on the AVAXC network.
Binance temporarily halted withdrawals as a precaution to prevent losses from spreading after the security incident, assess the scale and impact of damage, restore related services and carry out security verification. It has been resuming withdrawals step by step, starting with networks and assets that have completed stability and security checks. It plans to open remaining networks and assets once inspections are completed.
Binance's community rewards campaign requires regulatory approval and will go live after the regulator reviews and approves it once offices open tomorrow. There is currently no cash voucher campaign, so please be vigilant against all types of phishing and scam links. Safety first.♀️
