DeepSeek has released a prototype autonomous coding agent to take on Anthropic's Claude Code, Bloomberg News reported on Nov. 1.

DeepSeek's Harness team unveiled the open-source agent, called Super-agent, in a WeChat post on Oct. 31, the report said.

Super-agent monitors group chats among developers on its own and gathers views on coding problems. It proposes solutions first even if users do not summon it.

In a user manual posted on GitHub, DeepSeek said its goal is to "minimise what people need to worry about as much as possible and maximise the value gained as much as possible."

DeepSeek formed the Harness team early this year. The team supports the development of AI agents that will compete with coding services from major U.S. AI research and development companies including Anthropic. Harness is software that wraps large language models, enabling AI agents to handle more complex tasks. Developers including Anthropic have also been designing their own harnesses to make work such as coding more efficient.

DeepSeek has also secured funding to compete with Anthropic and OpenAI. It raised about $15 billion in a recent funding round ahead of an initial public offering.
