U.S. blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis had its internal systems breached in an attack using AI agents, exposing some customer information, The Hacker News reported on Oct. 31.

According to the report, Chainalysis said on Oct. 30 that an external attacker gained unauthorised access to its systems and internal tools using an "offensive agent technique." The attacker accessed non-sensitive customer information, including user IDs, names, email addresses and organisational role details. Investigation materials, credentials and session tokens were not exposed, the company said.

Chainalysis is patching the vulnerability and strengthening system security. "Across the industry, AI-based cyber attacks are increasing," the company said. It added it is reviewing its security posture companywide.

The "offensive agent technique" means AI tools were used in the attack. Chainalysis did not disclose the specific method used.
