KT will train retired and former employees as AI instructors and begin generative AI education for elderly people living alone.

KT said on Saturday it will run a pilot generative AI programme for four weeks from Nov. 6 in cooperation with Seongnam City’s Single-Person Household Healing Space, targeting about 20 single-person households aged 60 to 69 living in Seongnam.

A total of 45 senior IT supporters from among KT’s retired and former employees will participate as instructors. KT selected nine additional senior instructors from among retirees for the programme. It will use a “peer-to-peer education” approach in which people of a similar generation teach and learn from each other to improve seniors’ ability to use AI.

The curriculum was developed in connection with the generative AI course of KT’s AI skills certification test and education programme, AICE (AI Certificate for Everyone). It consists of eight sessions. The introductory course covers the concept of generative AI and how to write prompts. The advanced course includes hands-on practice such as searching for everyday information, distinguishing false information, and making a book using one’s own stories.

KT plans to expand the “visiting senior AI education” programme nationwide based on the results of the pilot.

KT’s IT Supporters is a social contribution project the company has operated since 2007 with the KT Group Hope Sharing Foundation to help reduce the digital information gap. About 150 professional instructors nationwide, including retired employees and career-interrupted women, are currently teaching AI coding and ethics, how to use digital devices and how to prevent voice phishing.

In remote and island areas, it operates a mobile AI experience education centre called “AI Station” to improve access to digital education.
