The Broadcasting Media Telecommunications Commission held a joint drill for responding to broadcast disasters on Oct. 30 at TV Chosun’s Seoul headquarters as part of the “2026 Disaster Response Safe Korea Exercise.”
Fifteen related agencies took part, including the commission, TV Chosun, the Seoul Jungbu Fire Station, the Seoul Jung-gu Office and the Seoul Namdaemun Police Station. The drill assumed broadcast transmission would be halted due to torrential rain and fire. It focused on checking the cooperation system among agencies and the procedures for restoring broadcasts.
Key components included real-time situation reporting among agencies, requesting disaster broadcasting and restoring broadcast functions. The drill also checked procedures for emergency transmission and succession of the main control room’s functions when a broadcaster’s operations are paralyzed.
The main control room is a facility that comprehensively manages the transmission of broadcast programmes. The drill also confirmed procedures for supporting recovery supplies in preparation for a power outage and a joint disaster response system between the commission and broadcasters.
The commission plans to strengthen its cooperation system with related agencies and to continue checking and improving procedures for responding to broadcast outages.
