Quantum technology company QAI said on Oct. 30 it appointed Jeong Hyeon-seok (정현석), a professor in Seoul National University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy who heads the university’s Hybrid Quantum Computing Center (NextQuantum), as an adviser.

Jeong received a PhD in theoretical physics from Queen’s University graduate school in Britain in 2003. He joined Seoul National University as a professor in 2008 after working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Queensland’s physics department in Australia and as a research fellow at the Centre for Quantum Computer Technology.

He mainly researches quantum information theory and optics-based quantum information processing.

QAI plans to accelerate the build-out of a hybrid AI data centre combining a QPU (Quantum Processing Unit), GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) and NPU (Neural Processing Unit).

Jeong said, "Quantum computers create value in industrial settings when combined with existing computing resources." He added, "I will help QAI as it works to set the standard for hybrid quantum AI infrastructure in Korea."
