Ubisoft has decided not to make additional remakes in the Assassin's Creed series for the time being. Instead of reinterpreting existing titles, it plans to focus its capabilities on developing new games with new settings and stories.

On Oct. 29, IT outlet Engadget reported that Ubisoft said on its official blog, "There are no other Assassin's Creed remakes currently in development." It added that it has not ruled out the possibility of remaking past titles in the future.

Ubisoft said it gained experience in remake development through Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, which was released on July 9. It said rebuilding old systems from scratch and adding new elements made it difficult to strike a balance between the original game's identity and innovation.

While it is halting additional remakes, it will continue supporting existing titles. Ubisoft released the final major content update for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced on Oct. 27. The update includes New Game Plus, which lets players replay the game while keeping their existing progress, and a high-difficulty mode called Nightmare.

New Game Plus will be added to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, released in 2020, on Nov. 5. Players will be able to start a new run while keeping some existing equipment and progression elements. Additional update news related to current-generation consoles is also set to be announced soon.

Development of the next title is also continuing. The multiplayer project Codename Invictus is strengthening the series' signature action and gameplay by reflecting user feedback collected in a closed test.

Another upcoming title, Codename Hexe, which emphasizes a darker tone, is also in development. Ubisoft said development is progressing smoothly but that it needs more time until completion. It plans to release key information in 2027.

The company is also pushing to expand content beyond games. Netflix's live-action Assassin's Creed drama has entered the final stages of production in Rome, Italy. A release schedule has not yet been confirmed.

Ubisoft also plans to roll out various new-game information and updates, user rewards and community events in 2027, when the series marks its 20th anniversary.
