[DigitalToday reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] Japan's video game developer FromSoftware has delayed the release of its Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive The Duskbloods to 2027, the report said.

Engadget reported on Oct. 29 that the game had been slated for release this year, but the schedule slipped due to end-stage development adjustments.

The Duskbloods is a multiplayer-focused new title. FromSoftware said the game is in the final stage of development. It withdrew its plan to release it within this year. It did not provide a specific new release date, saying only that it plans to launch it sometime in 2027.

FromSoftware used X, formerly Twitter, to explain results from a network test held in August. The company said it confirmed "active interest" in the game's core concepts, including combat, strategic depth and player expression. It said it moved the launch schedule to further strengthen those elements and to secure time for final adjustments to the game's rules and balancing.

The reason for the delay is focused on adjusting the completeness of the content. FromSoftware said it needs "final adjustments to game rules and balancing". It confirmed reactions to key fun elements through the network test, but the move is read as a decision to further refine the multiplayer structure ahead of the actual launch. Because the game is a multiplayer title, rule design and balance tuning can directly affect the user experience immediately after release.

The title was first unveiled at a Nintendo Switch 2 showcase in April 2025. It is marked by a gothic steampunk mood at the forefront. FromSoftware had been indicating a launch within this year since the unveiling, but the decision now changes the schedule for a major Switch 2 exclusive.

This is not the first time FromSoftware has adjusted its Switch 2-related schedule. A port of Elden Ring was originally scheduled for release in 2025, but it did not arrive on the Switch 2 until August this year. At the time, reports about performance issues were followed by indications that optimisation needed more time. This time as well, the company has put more weight on checking completeness in the late stage of development.

As a result, FromSoftware's Switch 2 strategy has continued to focus on securing quality rather than speed. The company is expected to use the delay to reflect responses seen in the network test in the actual service structure and spend time refining core elements such as combat, strategic play and player self-expression. With the new schedule pushed into 2027, the next points to watch are the specific launch timing and whether additional tests will be conducted.

While development of "The Duskbloods" is at the final adjustment stage, we have made the decision to move the launch window to 2027. We apologize to players who have been kindly awaiting the release of this title and thank you for your patience and support. https://t.co/U9941Mgkyw
