Naver is expanding editing functions on its news publisher-edited pages and increasing exposure for issue and in-depth planning articles.
Naver said on Oct. 30 it has revamped the issue area and editing templates of its publisher-edited pages from Oct. 29.
It expanded the number of key stories in the issue area, which publishers curate directly, to 10 from 6. It also added editing formats including live video, briefing and in-depth planning, allowing publishers to choose how stories are displayed depending on their nature.
It also introduced briefing cards that bundle and deliver the day’s major news. For example, an evening briefing shown from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. can be composed to include economic indicators released that day, the most-read stories and key schedules for the next day.
Naver also revamped the "Issue Now" area where publishers select major issues directly. According to Naver, as of October, 66 publishers are providing about 470,000 articles through 834 issues.
Issue Now subscriptions rose about 69 percent to 1.2 million in September from 710,000 in January. Naver changed the user interface to make it easier to check related issue articles and developments, reflecting the usage trend.
It also adjusted how in-depth planning articles are displayed. It changed from a latest-article-focused composition to a format that expands the in-depth planning section at the bottom for all users.
Naver News' publisher-edited pages launched in 2017 and currently have 28.48 million subscribers. Each user subscribes to an average of 7.7 publishers.
Kim Soo-hyang (김수향), a Naver News leader, said, "We will advance the news service so that we can deliver in-depth planning articles with depth and issue articles that require continuity of analysis in various ways."
