[Digital Today reporter Yoonseo Lee] Michael Saylor (마이클 세일러) publicly rebutted claims that there is no need to buy bitcoin.

On Oct. 27, U.Today, a blockchain outlet, reported that Saylor stressed bitcoin’s unique value in response to a community claim that “anyone can create a cryptocurrency, so there is no need to buy bitcoin.”

Saylor, who leads Strategy, the world’s largest corporate holder of bitcoin, compared bitcoin to the English language. He said denying bitcoin’s value because anyone can create a cryptocurrency is like arguing there is no need to learn English because anyone can invent a new language.

The core of the analogy is that creating something new is different from replacing the value accumulated by an existing system. He argued that just as English has a long-established user base and influence, bitcoin cannot be judged the same as other cryptocurrencies simply because new tokens can be issued.

This is interpreted as underscoring “network effects,” in which utility grows as the number of users and use cases expands. It means gaining market trust and securing a trading base matter more than issuing tokens itself. The view is that even if a technically similar asset is created, it cannot immediately replicate the existing ecosystem and acceptance.

The community also continued to show reactions supporting Saylor’s argument. Some users reinforced his logic by adding analogies explaining the difference between bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies that can be issued easily.

The crux of the debate is that the possibility of creating a new cryptocurrency and bitcoin’s already-formed value are not the same issue. Saylor’s analogy showed that networks and accumulated trust, rather than technical entry barriers, are at the center of the discussion.

Saying there’s no reason to buy Bitcoin because anyone can create a cryptocurrency is like saying there’s no reason to learn English because anyone can invent a language.
