An employee of Bithumb's investor protection office received a citation from the chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in recognition of contributions to assisting investigations into hidden crime funds and returning victim assets.

Bithumb said on Oct. 27 that Oh Dae-seok (오대석), head of its market surveillance team, won the citation from the Seoul police chief for cooperating with investigations into hidden crime funds, marking the 81st Police Day.

Oh supported procedures to return unreimbursed victim assets remaining in accounts related to financial incidents by working with investigative authorities.

He contacted the account holder and the victim to explain the procedures needed for the return and, regardless of whether the account was frozen, also supported the return of remaining assets in accounts with records linked to financial incidents by cooperating with police.

Bithumb said that when financial fraud such as voice phishing occurs, it checks the route of victim assets and details of relief applications and works with related institutions including police and financial companies to support asset preservation and return.

Last month, a Bithumb employee also received the "KB Kookmin Jikimi Award" and a citation from the police chief after contributing to the recovery and prevention of voice-phishing victim assets.

A Bithumb official said, "Since voice phishing can happen to anyone, prevention in advance and a swift response are important." The official added, "If 피해 occurs, we hope people will immediately report it to the police and financial institutions and receive guidance through the Bithumb customer center."
