Hong Kong has designated Nasdaq-listed Solana Company as a strategic enterprise, blockchain media outlet Cointelegraph reported on Oct. 26 (local time).
Solana Company was selected for the Hong Kong government's programme to attract strategic enterprises. It is the only blockchain infrastructure company among those accepted by Hong Kong’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises in 2026.
The designation is part of a programme Hong Kong runs to draw in companies that support the city’s economic development. The Hong Kong government confirmed it added 18 companies last week, bringing the total number selected to 142.
Solana Company said the designation gives it a single point of contact across government departments and regulators, and allows it to move faster through procedures to hire overseas talent. It also said it will receive support in connecting with local institutional partners. The company said the designation streamlines its channel for dealing with government and regulators into one, and will help it pick up speed in overseas recruitment and cooperation with local institutions.
The company plans to build Solana validator operations in Hong Kong. The project will be pursued under the “Pacific Backbone” initiative to build a low-latency blockchain infrastructure network across the Asia-Pacific region. Solana Company said it plans to make Hong Kong one of its regional hubs under the initiative.
In terms of its business structure, Solana Company operates staking and validator infrastructure and also advises financial institutions on adopting blockchain. It also holds Solana as part of its digital asset treasury strategy. It said it is not simply a token investment company, but a structure combining infrastructure operations and institutional advisory work, which aligns with the background to the designation.
From Hong Kong’s perspective, it is notable that it has brought a blockchain infrastructure company into the strategic enterprise programme. Solana Company said it is the only blockchain infrastructure company among those accepted by the Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises this year. This shows Hong Kong is placing weight on attracting companies with actual network operations and a base for institutional cooperation, rather than simply bringing in services.
The company’s local validator operations plan also aligns with Hong Kong’s push to foster the digital asset and blockchain industry. If support is provided at the same time through a government channel, securing overseas talent and connecting with institutional partners, Solana Company could expand both its infrastructure operations and institutional business in Hong Kong. Based on the original article, the specific start date and investment 규모 were not disclosed.
Separately, Hong Kong’s strategic enterprise programme has attracted a cumulative 142 companies through its seventh selection round. In that context, Solana Company’s addition is seen as an example showing Hong Kong is moving to attract not only application services but also foundational infrastructure companies in the blockchain field.
