Bitcoin has slipped back to around $83,000, and an analysis said judging whether support is forming requires checking both nearby holdings and the real buying demand that can absorb them.

On Oct. 21, blockchain media outlet CryptoSlate reported that on-chain analytics firm Glassnode set out the supply-demand checks ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve's Oct. 27-28 meeting.

The core of the analysis is a "proximity framework". It assesses support reliability by looking at how much supply is distributed around the current price range and whether buying demand flows in to absorb it. Simply reaching or briefly staying at a certain level makes it hard to treat that zone as support, it said.

The $83,000 level also needs both supply distribution and actual trading flows to be examined. Even if supply is concentrated near adjacent price levels, it is hard to view it as a basis for supporting the price if demand to absorb it is insufficient. If buying demand steadily flows in and absorbs supply, the likelihood that the zone becomes support can carry more weight.

Glassnode said real buying should be distinguished from simple expectations of a rebound. Even if prices rise temporarily or investor sentiment improves, it is necessary to check whether buy executions and supply absorption continue in that zone.

Rising volume does not in itself mean buyers are in control. Volume can also increase when existing holders pour out sell supply. If trading becomes active but the price repeatedly gets pushed down in the same zone, it is necessary to consider the possibility that new buying is not absorbing the sell supply sufficiently.

After the Fed meeting, it is expected to become important to distinguish the immediate price reaction after the announcement from follow-on supply and demand. Even if prices rebound on interpretations of the rate decision or the future policy path, gains can be given back if buying does not follow. If buying demand holds up even as prices adjust, it can be a basis for confirming the zone's support strength.

The analysis focuses on presenting criteria for evaluating the current price level, rather than predicting whether bitcoin will rise or fall before the Fed meeting. That makes it key not only whether prices rebound at $83,000 but also whether new demand continues afterward to absorb supply. Whether the level remains a zone the price merely passes through or becomes support is expected to depend on the persistence of buying demand.
