Chabi, an operator of fast electric vehicle charging infrastructure, has been picked as both an operator and a manufacturer under the government’s electric vehicle charging facility subsidy programme. Chabi said on Thursday it was selected in two capacities for the "2026 electric vehicle charging facility subsidy programme" run by the Climate Energy and Environment Ministry.

This year marks its ninth consecutive selection as an operator. The manufacturer category was created for the first time this year, and Chabi was also selected there. The company said it secured all four categories — operator for fast and medium-speed charging facilities, operator for slow charging facilities, manufacturer for fast and medium-speed charging facilities, and manufacturer for slow charging facilities — and will participate in the programme through 2027.

The ministry revised the subsidy programme framework from this year so that operators and manufacturers are evaluated and selected separately. For manufacturers, technological development capability and charger quality and performance are applied as separate screening criteria. Chabi said it passed the revised assessments as both an operator and a manufacturer, and that its capacity to build and operate charging facilities and its product technology were recognised together.

In the manufacturer category, a broad product lineup spanning power outputs from slow to fast charging was cited as the reason for selection. The chargers Chabi produces itself include 12 models ranging from 50 kW to 350 kW. It also has on-site experience built through installation and operation, maintenance and response to failures. Chabi said it has participated consistently since the early stages of the government subsidy programme.

Chabi carries out the entire process in-house, from charger development and manufacturing to installation, operation and after-sales management. It currently operates fast-charging facilities on a scale of about 10,000 bays. It is responsible for expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure in both the public and private sectors.

Choi Young-hoon (최영훈), Chabi's chief executive, said, "This simultaneous selection in the four categories and the ninth straight year as an operator show the results of Chabi's accumulated charger technology and on-site operational capabilities." He added, "We will continue to upgrade products and operational services that can respond to diverse charging environments in the public sector as well."
