Nvidia has boosted DLSS 5 performance again about a month after its previous improvement.

On Oct. 14, tech outlet TechRadar reported that Nvidia said it doubled the performance of the artificial intelligence model that runs DLSS 5, while cutting video memory (VRAM) use in 4K by 20 percent.

With this update, DLSS 5 has reached about 10 times the performance it had at launch in March. It needed two RTX 5090s at the time, but it improved fivefold by the time it was officially implemented in NBA 2K27, followed by additional gains. Nvidia also cut the AI model size by 24 percent to about 118 million parameters. Frame rates in NBA 2K27 rose by 30 to 40 percent.

The new DLSS 5 model will be available from Oct. 16 on RTX 5000 GPUs, RTX Spark laptops and GeForce Now. It will be applied to "Hogwarts Legacy" on Nov. 5 and is set to be added to "Where Winds Meet" in the near future. From Oct. 23, Nvidia also plans to integrate DLSS 5 into RTX Remix so it can be used to improve graphics in older games.

It also added a new performance mode for frame generation. It is offered as "Preset C" under the frame generation override in the Nvidia app. It uses a lighter and faster algorithm to further raise frame rates. Nvidia explained that it can deliver up to 35 percent higher frame rates on the RTX 5060.

Initial reactions are mixed. Some users said Preset C raises frame rates but shows more glitches and artifacts. Others said the issue does not appear for all users, and that the perceived impact may vary by game.

The core of the market reaction is focused less on the performance improvement itself than on the scope of support. DLSS 5's heavy performance load and support centered on RTX 5000-class GPUs have been seen as key issues. With graphics card prices rising, the fact that the latest high-priced GPUs are close to essential has been cited as a barrier to entry.

In this situation, users are watching whether the improved AI model will lead to expanded support for older product lines. One user responded, "If the new model has improved this much, can't it officially support the RTX 40 series as well?" Nvidia has already indicated it will move to support the previous generation, RTX 4000, after tuning performance on RTX 5000.

Nvidia described the progress as making 2026 "the year DLSS innovation did not stop." Still, the immediate confirmed changes focus on performance optimisation and expanding supported platforms. As a result, the next points to watch are whether DLSS 5 will come down to RTX 4000 and whether the new frame generation mode will take hold without controversy over lower image quality.
