In the 2026 cryptocurrency market, newly launched tokens are showing higher returns than existing altcoins and bitcoin, leading a recovery among the top 100 assets.

On Oct. 14, blockchain media outlet Cryptopolitan reported that tokens that emerged from 2024 to 2026 took top-tier performance, while assets from earlier market cycles were generally weak.

By CryptoRank tallies, the median return for tokens launched in 2024 to 2026 was 27.5 percent. Most tokens released earlier recorded negative returns. Also, 70.8 percent of new tokens were in profit, while only 30 percent of listed assets from before 2017 were profitable.

The market is maintaining demand for assets beyond bitcoin, but traders are not staying long with specific tokens or chains and are chasing new opportunities. As users and traders move quickly, some low-usage chains have shut down. Investors are also showing a preference for platforms with active app activity.

In the short term, some new tokens have significantly outperformed bitcoin. There were cases of gains of more than 200 percent for the latest quarter. Market liquidity appears to be spreading simultaneously across multiple assets with growth potential, rather than simply rotating between bitcoin and altcoins.

Some new tokens are promoting incentives, token burns and fee distribution structures together. In the third quarter, major platform, DeFi protocol and decentralised exchange token PUMP, Hyperliquid (HYPE), Uniswap (UNI), Aave (AAVE), Jupiter (JUP) and PancakeSwap (CAKE) showed relatively strong performance.

By ecosystem, Solana drew the largest number of meme token launches and the most spot DEX trading, but BNB Chain stood out more in value growth. BNB Chain recorded the highest ratio of token holders, surpassing Ethereum and other chains. As retail-focused trading continued, some tokens could expect listings on Binance DEX or limited liquidity in centralised trading markets, and Binance Alpha incentives also supported some assets.

On BNB Chain, project-linked tokens aimed at surviving longer than short-term meme tokens gathered. CryptoRank counted 732 such tokens as of 2026, with an average market capitalisation of $23 million. Among the 2026 launch cohort, the total value of BNB Chain tokens was $6.4 billion, accounting for about 51 percent of total market capitalisation. Still, token value does not necessarily reflect actual activity or available liquidity, and a significant number of assets on BNB Chain also posted large losses.

By contrast, there were also clear cases where mass issuance did not lead to maintaining real value. More than 23.7 million tokens have been created on Pump.fun so far, but most have lost value and trading activity. That means heavy new issuance does not guarantee market performance.

Ethereum-compatible tokens showed a slowing trend in 2026. Early in the year, Base aimed to become the central chain for new token launches, and it even hit peaks with daily token counts nearing 3 million. But the most recent quarter fell to the slowest pace since late 2024, and Base has been lagging in competition for launches and liquidity.

Ultimately, the 2026 market appears to be moving away from a structure centred on bitcoin and older altcoins, with profit opportunities shifting toward new tokens. The market is moving to places where activity and liquidity form quickly rather than showing loyalty to specific chains or tokens, leaving which ecosystems secure both liquidity and usability after issuance as a key variable going forward.
