Anthropic will take over confidential computing and AI specialist Opaque through an acquihire, Constellation Research reported on Oct. 13.

The report said Anthropic will secure licenses to Opaque’s technology and hire part of the Opaque team. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Opaque CEO Aaaron Fulkerson announced the deal on the company blog.

Opaque has worked with Nvidia, Intel, Microsoft and Google in confidential computing. It raised $24 million in a Series B round and was valued at $300 million. It later released a security framework and in recent months introduced open standards for sovereign AI and on-premises deployments.

Constellation Research said the deal makes sense for Anthropic. Anthropic is working to sign up companies as customers that are considering on-premises deployments, open models and sovereign AI architectures.

Fulkerson said, "I am proud that we have entered into a new agreement with Anthropic to continue Opaque’s work." He said, "We started from university research and built a company, and contributed to establishing confidential AI as a market category. We developed verifiable AI from an idea into working technology."
