KakaoBank has introduced a product that allows customers to select debit card benefits each day to match that day’s spending plans. Without conditions such as prior-month performance or a minimum payment amount, customers can choose and apply either 0.5 percent cashback at domestic merchants or 5 percent cashback at major lifestyle brands and year-end tax settlement-related categories.

KakaoBank said on Tuesday it has launched 'KakaoBank The Check Card,' which allows benefits to be changed depending on spending patterns.

Benefits consist of three packs: 'Anywhere', 'Save' and 'Year-end tax settlement'. Customers can change the benefit pack once a day. If they switch it in the KakaoBank app under 'My Card', it applies immediately from the next payment.

The 'Anywhere' pack provides cashback of 0.5 percent of payment amounts at domestic merchants. The 'Save' pack offers 5 percent cashback at major lifestyle brands such as GS25, Daiso and Olive Young, and at Mega MGC Coffee, Paik's Coffee, Compose Coffee and Mammoth Coffee. The 5 percent rate also applies to membership subscription fees such as Naver Plus, Coupang Wow and Baemin Club, and to recurring payments for budget mobile services.

The 'Year-end tax settlement' pack offers 5 percent cashback in everyday areas related to income and tax deductions, including traditional markets, optical stores, gyms, hospitals, academies and pharmacies. Cultural spending such as Kyobo Book Centre and CGV is also included.

Cashback limits for the three benefit packs are capped at a combined maximum of 20,000 won per month and 1,000 won per day. The current benefit lineup will be provided through June 30, 2027, and it plans to change the lineup by season thereafter.

'The Check Card' also comes with the 'Everyone's Card (K-Pass)' function as a standard feature.

KakaoBank also introduced an AI-based 'tax deduction calculator' to coincide with the card launch. Customers can check estimated tax deduction amounts and year-end tax settlement refund amounts in the app.

A KakaoBank official said, "Rather than adjusting spending to fixed benefits, this card was designed so customers can choose the benefits they need to match that day’s spending."
