Apple's iPhone 18 Pro shows strengths in overall performance, while the iPhone Air stands out for design and portability.
On Oct. 12, IT outlet TechRadar summed up a comparison of the two products by saying the iPhone 18 Pro has the edge in camera, battery and processing performance, while the iPhone Air differentiates itself with a thinner and lighter design.
Both models are positioned at a lower price point than the top-tier lineup. The iPhone 18 Pro was released in September 2026, with a starting price of $1,199 for the 256GB version (1.99 million won in South Korea). The iPhone Air, released in September 2025, is priced at $1,099 for the same storage (1.79 million won in South Korea). The price difference by storage is $100 (about 130,000 won) across all tiers. The iPhone Air is often sold at a discount, but it does not have a 2TB model.
The price gap is not large, but the choice criteria clearly differ. The iPhone 18 Pro has a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone Air uses a 6.5-inch display. Both models use a Super Retina XDR OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,000 nits of brightness, so there is not a big difference in screen quality.
The materials also differ. The iPhone Air uses a titanium frame, while the iPhone 18 Pro uses an aluminium frame. Both models support a Ceramic Shield 2 front, a Ceramic Shield back and IP68 water and dust resistance.
The gap is clear in cameras. The iPhone 18 Pro has a 48-megapixel variable-aperture wide camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 48-megapixel telephoto camera. It supports 4x optical zoom and 8x optical-quality zoom based on sensor cropping. The iPhone Air, by contrast, includes only a single 48-megapixel wide camera with a fixed f/1.6 aperture. Basic wide performance is similar, but shooting flexibility differs significantly.
The iPhone 18 Pro uses the A20 Pro chip, while the iPhone Air uses the A19 Pro chip. Both models have 12GB of RAM, leaving little difference in multitasking and running iOS 27, and both support the full set of Siri AI functions. The iPhone 18 Pro is described as fast and efficient, while the iPhone Air is fast and smooth but can heat up during extended high-spec gaming.
The iPhone 18 Pro is far ahead on battery. The iPhone Air has a 3,149 mAh battery, while the iPhone 18 Pro has 4,288 mAh. The model with a physical SIM tray has 4,056 mAh. Apple lists video playback time at 34 hours for the iPhone 18 Pro and 27 hours for the iPhone Air. In real use, the iPhone 18 Pro was summarised at about a day and a half, and the iPhone Air at about a day.
Charging speed also differs. The iPhone 18 Pro can charge to 50 percent in about 15 minutes, while the iPhone Air takes about twice as long. For wireless charging, both models support charging to 50 percent in 30 minutes.
Software support length is also a variable. Since the iPhone Air is an older product, it was raised that its update support period may be shorter than the iPhone 18 Pro's. Based on estimates, the iPhone 18 Pro is around 7 years and the iPhone Air around 6 years.
Overall, the iPhone 18 Pro is a versatile option with a high-performance camera, long battery time and a higher-end chipset. The iPhone Air's strengths are a larger screen, a thinner and lighter design and a relatively lower price. For Apple premium phones, those prioritising performance lean toward the iPhone 18 Pro, while those focusing on in-hand feel and portability tilt toward the iPhone Air.
