Nvidia said on Oct. 12 it will invest and provide support totaling $1 billion over the next five years to advance superintelligence technology development in U.S. science and quantum computing. Quantum computing, healthcare and energy security are key target areas.

The funding will be used in three ways. It will support U.S. higher-education research institutions and increase investment to strengthen leadership in quantum computing. It will also include support for cloud service providers that underpin major U.S. government missions. Nvidia also proposed participation so the scientific community can collaborate on research and development using computing and superintelligence infrastructure.

Nvidia was also listed as a partner on projects selected for Phase 2 of the Genesis Mission, unveiled on the day. Projects include quantum computing, nuclear fusion, accelerator design and microelectronics.

Nvidia formed a Genesis Mission partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy last year. The partnership includes a project to build the largest supercomputer for scientific research at Argonne National Laboratory. The company said it is also supporting the installation of seven new systems at Argonne and Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang (젠슨 황) said, "President Trump's Genesis Mission is opening a new golden age of scientific discovery in the United States." He added, "Through a $1 billion investment, Nvidia plans to help U.S. scientists use advanced superintelligence technologies and accelerate breakthrough advances in healthcare, energy and materials." He said, "Through this, the United States can convert scientific leadership into industrial leadership, and innovation into jobs and opportunities for future generations."
