Cloudflare will acquire Deno, a company co-founded by Node.js developer Ryan Dahl (라이언 달), TheNewsStack reported on Oct. 9 local time.

Deno has developed a runtime that runs programs built with JavaScript and TypeScript on servers or PCs.

The report said all members of the Deno team will join Cloudflare under the deal. Deno will discontinue its own runtime and cloud hosting service. Engineers will focus on developing Cloudflare's serverless computing platform Workers. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Deno was founded in 2018 with the goal of addressing security and dependency management issues in Node.js. It raised about $26 million in funding through two investment rounds. It later launched Deno Deploy and competed with Workers.

In August, Deno also unveiled an open-source project called Seld that enables Workers programming methods to be used on its own servers.

Cloudflare will integrate Seld with its open-source runtime, Workerd. The integration project will remain open source.
