Woowa Brothers, operator of Baedal Minjok, said on Wednesday its project to create a platform-based green delivery ecosystem was selected as a government K-GX signature project for Korea’s green transformation. Baemin was the only IT platform company included in K-GX.

K-GX is a national strategy that pursues responses to the climate crisis, carbon neutrality and sustainable economic growth at the same time. The government has been identifying signature projects linked to private-sector business and investment plans. The company said Baemin was recognised for carrying out a public-private pilot programme for electric delivery motorcycles with government ministries and local governments.

The pilot programme was set up after being selected in June 2024 for a smart city development project run by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Since March this year, it has been building battery swap stations in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi province, providing free rentals of electric motorcycles and paying incentives per delivery. In February this year, it also signed a business agreement at the Baemin Rider School in Hanam, Gyeonggi province, with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, delivery platforms and agencies, and related associations and organisations to promote wider adoption of electric motorcycles.

Baemin Rider School is the only rider training facility in South Korea. Baemin provides training for electric motorcycles there and also runs related campaigns and promotional activities. With the latest selection, Baemin plans to push faster to build an eco-friendly delivery ecosystem.

It will develop the electric motorcycle LED delivery box advertising pilot programme, which received regulatory sandbox approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, into a new example of public-private cooperation. The programme is operating with about 80 motorcycles in Seoul’s Gangnam, Seocho, Songpa and Gangdong districts. It plans to gradually expand nationwide the results achieved in Gwangmyeong and Seoul.

Yoon Seok-joon (윤석준), head of the brand communication strategy division at Woowa Brothers, said, "For safe delivery to be sustainable, I think the urban environment and the conditions of riders travelling on those roads must improve together." He added, "We will continue to work closely with the government to build a foundation that allows riders to easily use eco-friendly means of transport, and create changes that customers can feel in their daily lives."
