[DigitalToday reporter Jae-won Choi] BMW unveiled the new coupe-style electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) iX4. In the United States, sales will begin in March 2027 starting with the iX4 50 xDrive.
InsideEVs and BMW said on Oct. 7 local time that the iX4 is the third "Neue Klasse" model following the iX3 and i3. It combines an SUV body with a coupe-style roofline that slopes down toward the rear like the X4 and X6, and comes standard with an M Sport package and 20-inch wheels.
The U.S.-spec iX4 50 xDrive has electric motors at the front and rear and produces a maximum 463 horsepower. Usable battery capacity is 112.2 kWh, and the range per charge is estimated at up to 428 miles (about 689 km). BMW said this is a provisional in-house figure before EPA certification. It supports 400-kW fast charging, adding up to 184 miles (about 296 km) in 10 minutes, while charging from 10 to 80 percent takes 21 minutes. AC charging supports up to 15.4 kW.
A high-performance iX4 M60 xDrive will follow. It produces a maximum 603 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque, and accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph (about 97 km/h) in 3.7 seconds. An adaptive M suspension, electronically controlled M Sport differential, 21-inch wheels and M Sport brakes are standard.
In Europe, an entry-level iX4 40 xDrive will also be sold. Its two motors produce 374 horsepower, and maximum range is 638 km under the WLTP standard. The higher-spec 50 xDrive has a maximum WLTP range in Europe of 828 km.
The interior includes a 17.9-inch central display, BMW Panoramic Vision and an optional 3D head-up display. The voice assistant uses Amazon Alexa+ AI technology. It also supports bidirectional charging such as V2L and V2H, and related adapters are provided separately.
The iX4 will be produced at the Debrecen plant in Hungary along with the iX3. BMW plans to expand its push into the electric SUV market by highlighting long driving range and 800-volt-based ultra-fast charging.
