Shinhan Financial Group marked the 80th anniversary of the Korean Residents Union in Japan, known as Mindan, and reflected on 44 years of ties with ethnic Koreans in Japan while supporting their participation in financial markets.
Shinhan Financial said on Oct. 8 it took part in Mindan's 80th anniversary ceremony held on Oct. 7 at Lotte Hotel World in Jamsil, Seoul, and introduced the group's growth process and its plan to enhance corporate value.
It was the first time Mindan, founded in 1946, held its anniversary ceremony in South Korea rather than in Japan.
Shinhan Financial also has deep ties with ethnic Koreans in Japan. It began in 1982 when 341 small shareholders among ethnic Koreans in Japan contributed capital of 25 billion won, aiming to contribute to the development of the Korean economy. It adopted "finance for national service" as its founding philosophy, pledging to contribute to national and social development through finance.
At the event, Shinhan Financial operated a dedicated promotional booth for younger ethnic Koreans in Japan.
Shinhan Bank and Shinhan Investment guided visitors on procedures for opening bank and securities accounts depending on nationality and residency status, as well as methods for depositing and remitting investment funds domestically and overseas.
The booth also introduced Shinhan Financial's growth process, key management achievements and its plan to enhance corporate value. Shinhan Financial said it plans to support ethnic Koreans in Japan by improving access to South Korea's financial market and encouraging investment participation.
A Shinhan Financial official said, "Shinhan Financial began with the participation of ethnic Korean shareholders in Japan who hoped for the development of the Korean economy." The official added, "We will strengthen communication so that we can carry on the founding spirit and ensure our ties with ethnic Koreans in Japan continue to future generations."
