[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Microsoft held an event in San Francisco and unveiled its new Surface Laptop Ultra, equipped with an Nvidia AI chip.

CNBC reported on Monday that Surface Laptop Ultra is taking preorders now and will ship from Oct. 16. Prices start at $2,599.

Surface Laptop Ultra has one magnetic USB-C port similar to Apple MagSafe and two standard USB-C ports.

Microsoft first mentioned the product in May and has now disclosed details including pricing and the release schedule.

Surface Laptop Ultra is designed to handle more AI tasks not only in the cloud but also on the device. Users can install and run various models on the new laptop and use them without the burden of high monthly fees.

The top configuration offers 128 gigabytes of unified memory and 1 petaflop of compute performance. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang (젠슨 황) said at the Microsoft event that the Blackwell RTX Spark GPU in the product delivers processing performance on par with Nvidia's DGX-1 data center server from 2016.

Pavan Davuluri (파반 다불루리), corporate vice president for Windows and Devices at Microsoft, also said Meta plans to release a Windows version of its Muse AI agent.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella (사티아 나델라) said at the event that distributed computing will continue to remain distributed.
