Apple is working with LG to prepare a new smart home device ecosystem including smart door locks, thermostats and doorbells. TechCrunch reported on Oct. 6 that the products are designed to link with an Apple smart home hub that has been discussed for release on Oct. 13.
The smart home hub is expected to feature a 6-inch square display and come in a form designed to sit on a table or hang on a wall.
Apple and LG are also developing security cameras, including indoor and outdoor versions and a model integrated with a floodlight. TechCrunch reported that these LG-branded devices could be announced or unveiled next week.
The new product line was developed jointly by the two companies, but the products are expected to carry the LG brand, the report said.
The new line is likely to compete with Amazon's smart home products. Amazon already sells similar products, including Ring security cameras.
Apple has recently expanded its hardware business, and its push into smart homes is an extension of that effort.
