South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT said on Friday it held the second South Korea-Japan ICT policy forum with Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications at the National Science and Technology Advisory Council, discussing ways to cooperate in new digital technologies.

The second forum is one of the follow-up measures to last month's summit between South Korea and Japan. The South Korean ministry and Japan's ministry discussed ways to deepen cooperation in emerging digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and 6G for future-oriented cooperation between the two countries. They also reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation since the first forum in 2023.

The two sides handled AI, digital technology standards and cybersecurity as key cooperation agendas. The South Korean ministry introduced the overall national AI policy and shared the status of private-sector cooperation on developing 6G standards. They also discussed ways to strengthen exchanges between the two countries' standardisation bodies.

They also discussed cybersecurity and agreed to communicate closely to create a safe and reliable digital ecosystem.

Ryu Je-myung (류제명), the ministry's second vice minister, said discussions at the forum were held to further solidify ICT cooperation between South Korea and Japan. He said communication for ICT cooperation would continue.
