Tim Cook (팀 쿡), Apple’s former chief executive and current board chair, sold about $63.90 million worth of Apple shares in early October, worth about 85.63 billion won. The transaction was made under a share trading plan set months earlier.

NineToFiveMac and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filings dated Oct. 6 showed Cook sold 191,753 Apple shares on Oct. 2. The sale price was $330.66 to $334.50 a share, putting the total at about $63.90 million.

On Oct. 1, a day before the sale, 374,541 performance-based restricted stock units vested. The award was granted in October 2023 and uses Apple’s total shareholder return over the past 3 years against S&P 500 companies to determine the number of shares delivered. Apple’s 3-year TSR was 90.67 percent, ranking in the 76.2 percentile among 480 peer companies, setting the final amount.

Of the total, Apple withheld 199,038 shares to cover tax withholding triggered by the RSU vesting. The assessed value at the time was about $65.75 million, or about 88.10 billion won. Cook then sold 191,753 shares in multiple transactions on Oct. 2 and donated 26,325 shares the same day. The filing did not disclose the recipient of the donation.

The sale followed a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan Cook adopted on May 28 under U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission rules. The system allows corporate insiders to set conditions such as price, amount and timing in advance for automatic trading, reducing the possibility of discretionary trades using non-public information. After the sale, tax handling and the donation, Cook still holds 3,237,843 Apple shares through a trust.

Cook stepped down as CEO on Sept. 1 and is serving as executive chair of Apple’s board. John Ternus has taken over as CEO.
