Woori Bank will strengthen its voice phishing detection system by linking financial transaction information with telecommunications data in cooperation with LG Uplus.

Woori Bank said on Oct. 6 it will expand joint responses with LG Uplus to detect suspected signs of financial fraud more quickly.

The two companies signed a business agreement in August last year to prevent voice phishing losses, then began developing system linkages in January. On Aug. 27, they completed real-time linkage between Woori Bank’s financial fraud prevention system and detection information from LG Uplus’ artificial intelligence service, ixi-O.

Ixi-O detection information uses voice phishing risk data held by LG Uplus to pass risk indicators captured during calls to the financial sector. Based on this, Woori Bank established detection policies for an abnormal financial transaction detection system, or FDS, dedicated to LG Uplus data.

The companies plan to expand information linkages in both directions through a second upgrade. Beyond using telecom information for Woori Bank’s financial fraud detection, they are pursuing a plan to link suspected financial fraud information detected by Woori Bank’s FDS with LG Uplus.

A Woori Bank official said, "We will build a safer financial environment by organically connecting the two companies' data and systems."
