[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Ethereum layer-2 Base has applied its third mainnet upgrade, 'Cobalt'.
The upgrade includes validity transactions and B20 asset features.
Validity transactions let users submit a transaction in advance and have it executed only when set conditions are met. Users can also set an expiry period for each transaction.
The B20 standard adds composite policies. These let rules such as a know-your-customer (KYC) allowlist and a sanctions blocklist be applied together using 'AND' or 'OR' conditions. It also supports a function to schedule and adjust changes in how asset balances are displayed when needed, such as for a stock split.
If the asset seizure function is enabled, authorised administrators can use a new function to move a holder's balance to another address. In that case, the source, recipient, amount and memo are recorded on the blockchain.
Base plans to cut block production time to 200 milliseconds from 2 seconds within the next few months. It also plans to add protocol-level default support for smart accounts, gas sponsorship and bundled processing of multiple transactions.
