Rosota, an AI robotics company based on surgical data, said on Thursday it was selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' "2026 TIPS R&D general track".

Rosota was selected for "development of surgical technique data collection and standardisation technology for training a Surgical Robotics Foundation Model".

Rosota is developing technology that collects various data generated during real surgeries through its in-house data collection device, SurgiLogger, and standardises it into a format suitable for AI training.

Rosota records and analyses surgical video and physical data together to apply surgeons' actual techniques to AI training and development for surgical robots.

According to the company, SurgiLogger, the data collection device under development at Rosota, can be attached to existing laparoscopic surgical instruments without changing the internal insertion part or basic usage method. It is easy to apply to any surgical tool. It collects operation information generated during procedures such as inserting instruments and gripping or pulling tissue, including instrument position and direction, movement, insertion depth, gripper open-close status and force information, along with video.

Through the TIPS project, Rosota plans to collect and standardise surgical technique data in a consistent format. It also plans to apply the standardised instrument operation information to training a surgical robotics foundation model.

Rosota CEO Ye-chan Seo (서예찬) said, "For AI to learn surgeons' techniques, we needed to systematically secure physical data from real surgical sites, but collection itself was not easy." He said, "With this TIPS selection as a turning point, we will advance data collection and standardisation technology and quickly build the foundation needed to develop a surgical robotics foundation model."
