AI payments blockchain company Kite AI said on Thursday it has officially joined Google’s Agent Payments Protocol, or AP2, community as a partner.
AP2 is an open payment specification that Google has released to support secure, interoperable transactions in environments where AI agents carry out payments. Existing payment systems are designed on the assumption that people make payments directly, which can create problems such as authority checks, intent verification and separation of responsibility when an AI agent initiates a payment. AP2 aims to organise these issues into a common specification and establish a trusted way to make payments.
Kite AI said it will participate in the AP2 ecosystem alongside Mastercard, Salesforce, Alibaba Group, Shopify, Adobe, Walmart and Cloudflare. It said it is presenting a structure that operates agent payments in a safer and more verifiable way by combining stablecoin-based payments, spending rules built with smart contracts and immutable transaction records.
A Kite AI official said, "With this partnership, we plan to expand practical application of agent payment flows and strengthen payment integration and technical support to reduce the implementation burden for developers and merchants."
