DB Financial Investment is stepping up its digital asset business centred on security token offerings (STO) and real world assets (RWA). It has formalised a dedicated organisation and is pushing ahead with STO projects using real assets in Busan and Jeju, while also strengthening cooperation with global blockchain infrastructure.
Kwak Bong-seok (곽봉석), CEO of DB Financial Investment, said at the "Ethereum Korea One: Genesis" event held at Conrad Seoul in Yeouido, Seoul, on Sept. 28 that digital assets and Ethereum at their core are becoming a key pillar of global financial infrastructure. He said South Korea's traditional financial institutions should play a connecting role at the centre of change.
DB Financial Investment is expanding its digital asset business into a separate business area rather than a one-off collaboration. Kwak said the firm's digital asset business team started as a dedicated task force in November 2025 and, after verifying its business model and expertise, was converted into a formal organisation in May 2026.
It is currently pursuing the business with a focus on token securities issuance structures, platform development and global cooperation.
A flagship project is a carbon-reduction STO project being pursued in Busan. DB Financial Investment is taking part in the related consortium and is in charge of STO structure design and financial structuring.
The core of the project is to verify whether token securities can be used as a funding tool for the real economy by linking them to actual assets and contracts, rather than stopping at demonstrating blockchain technology itself. DB Financial Investment plans to secure a viable business model combining traditional finance and blockchain through the project.
In Jeju, it is seeking to expand STO and RWA businesses linked to global blockchain infrastructure. DB Financial Investment formed a partnership with Optimism in July and is exploring ways to implement domestic assets as blockchain-based financial products.
DB Financial Investment's focus on the Ethereum ecosystem is also aimed at expanding its STO and RWA businesses built in South Korea into global capital markets. It is planning to combine securities firms' existing financial capabilities, such as asset sourcing and structuring, with public blockchains to build a structure linking domestic assets with global investors.
Kwak said the aim was to move real-world capital on the most trustworthy infrastructure in global markets. He said he wants to prove how new technology can gain trust within the regulated system and become established as a practical investment market.
He added that technology itself is not the answer for finance. He stressed that the responsibility of traditional finance and the openness of blockchain must work together to earn market trust.
DB Financial Investment plans to expand its STO and RWA businesses within South Korea's regulatory framework and continue cooperation with global blockchain companies.
Kwak said regulation and security are not constraints on business but essential conditions for creating a sustainable ecosystem. He said he would connect global technology with South Korea's financial regulatory environment and develop it into an executable business structure.
